Secretary General attended a conference entitled “EU-Turkey Cooperation in Central Asia” organized on 13 May 2022 in Ankara

The Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States H.E. Baghdad Amreyev took part in the conference entitled “EU-Turkey Cooperation in Central Asia: Challenges and Opportunities for Closer Cooperation in the Region” as a keynote speaker held in Ankara, Türkiye on 13 May, 2022.

The conference was hosted by the Center for Eurasian Studies (AVİM) and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Turkey headed by Ambassador Alev Kılıç and Director Walter Glos respectively, and attended by the Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Türkiye, Dr. Alparslan Bayraktar, Director for Energy, Minerals & Environment (EME) of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), Rovshan Mirazayev and other significant diplomats, scholars and experts.

The Secretary General Amreyev delivered a keynote speech titled “The Organization of Turkic States – Prospects for the Future” and highlighted the past and present of the Organization mentioning the historic decisions taken in the 8th Summit of the OTS. He further briefed the conference on the cooperation areas of the OTS and its leading role in bringing together the Turkic World.

Touching on the future perspectives of the Organization, the Secretary General stated the importance of the Turkic World Vision 2040 and its vitality in standing together against the variable challenges of the 21st century.

B. Amreyev described the OTS Strategy 2022-2026 as the most ambitious key milestone in the Organization’s work. His analysis of political, economic and social cooperation with solid example goals such as the Turkic Investment Fund, multilateral free trade agreement and the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor (Middle Corridor) was greatly welcomed by the conference participants.

In the end of his speech Ambassador Amreyev once again stated the crucial intra-regional role of the Organization and expressed his gratitude for successful organization of the conference.

At the conference, experts and representatives of international/regional organizations underlined the increasing importance of the regional cooperation between the EU and Central Asia.
