In the framework of his working visit to Mexico, the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), H.E. Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev, held a meeting with H.E. Pedro Vázquez, Chairperson of the Committee of External Affairs of the Parliament of Mexico, as well as with the Heads of the Friendship Groups with Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Türkiye — Ms. Dulce Corina Villegas Guarneros, Ms. Maribel Martínez Ruíz, and Ms. Elda Castillo Quintana, respectively. The meeting was organized upon the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Mexico and was also attended by members of the Committee on External Affairs of the Mexican Parliament.
H.E. Ambassador Omuraliev was warmly welcomed by the Chairperson and Members of the Parliament. In his remarks, he briefly introduced the Organization of Turkic States and its main areas of activity, highlighting its role in promoting regional cooperation in such fields as economy, innovation, transport, education, and agriculture. In his remarks, H.E. Mr. Pedro Vázquez underlined the importance of enhancing inter-parliamentary cooperation between Mexico and the countries of the Turkic world. He noted that, in the current global context, regional integration and dialogue among nations play a crucial role in ensuring stability, mutual understanding, and shared progress. The Heads of the Friendship Groups expressed their readiness to contribute to developing stronger partnerships and expanding Mexico’s engagement with the Turkic States through the OTS platform. Members of the Commission commended the dynamic development of the OTS Member States, noting that they are emerging as significant global actors in various strategic sectors.
During his address, Ambassador Omuraliev expressed his sincere appreciation for the warm reception and hospitality extended by the Parliament of Mexico. He informed the participants about the outcomes of his working visit, including the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the OTS and the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT). He expressed hope that, in the future, Friendship Groups with other OTS Member States would also be established within the Mexican Parliament, further strengthening interregional dialogue.
As the concluding part of the visit, the Secretary General was received in a Panel Session of the Parliament of Mexico, where he was welcomed by the Speaker of the Parliament and members of the Commission, marking a significant step toward building stronger parliamentary and institutional ties between the OTS and Mexico.
