President of the World Ethnosport Confederation Bilal Erdoğan, Prince of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Hashim bin Hussein, the Chairman of Kazakhstan Ethnosport Association Kairat Satybaldy, Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Turkey Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu, Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan Azad Rahimov, Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan Dilmurad Nabiev, Minister of Youth and Sports of the Ivory Coast, Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Gambia, Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Mali, Federal Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Somalia, President of the Higher Council for Youth and Sport of the State of Palestine, as well as the Deputy Ministers of Youth and Sports of the Kyrgyz Republic, the State of Qatar and the Republic of Kenya attended in the Forum.
The Forum, which was organized and hosted by the World Ethnosport Confederation with the theme of “Elevating Traditional Sports”, gathered together around more than 200 participants from 55 different countries and focused on the current situation and problems of the traditional sports, as well as the methods to be adopted to preserve and promote such sports in today’s world.
In the opening speech, President of the World Ethnosport Confederation (WEC) Bilal Erdoğan stressed that traditional sports are part of the national culture and identity, by keeping the traditional sports alive, protecting the future generations and preserving national values will be possible. Bilal Erdoğan also underlined that WEC is working for promoting and ensuring the traditional sports to become a way of increasing solidarity between nations and cultures. President of WEC Erdoğan further stated that 4th International Ethnosport Forum will be held next year in Azerbaijan.
As one of the keynote speakers of the opening session, Secretary General Amreyev underlined the role that Turkic Council has taken to uphold the cultural codes and common values of the Turkic Speaking people, as well as the traditional sports with a specific reference to its role in the organization of the World Nomad Games. Secretary General stated that the very idea of organizing World Nomad Games first aired in the Turkic Council Summit in 2012 and the Turkic Council took place in the organization committee of the Games in 2014 and 2016, also currently working in close coordination with the authorities of the Turkish side regarding the organization of the Games which is planned to be held in Turkey this year.
While highlighting the efforts of the Turkic Council in promoting the traditional sports among the youth of the Member States through various events, Amreyev also stated that 6. Turkic Council Summit held in Cholpon-Ata on 3 September 2018 with the theme of “Youths and National Sports”, Ministers in charge of Youth and Sports of the Turkic Council are convening in a regular basis, lately 4. Meeting of the Ministers in charge of Youth and Sports of the Turkic Council was held on 29 November 2019 in Bishkek, moreover the Turkic Council is organizing Turkic Council University Sports Games (Turkic Universiade), Young Leaders Forum, International Youth Camps and other events in order to create awareness and solidarity among the young people.
Secretary General emphasized that the Turkic Council will continue to further develop its relations with World Ethnosport Confederation and support the promotion of the traditional sports, as well as the activities related to youth.
