Secretary General of the Turkic Council, Baghdad Amreyev, was awarded as the “Statesman” having served to the development of Ethnosports by the World Ethnosport Confederation (WEC) at the 2nd International Ethnosport Forum on the Revival of Traditional Sports held on 20-21 April 2019 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The prize was delivered to the Secretary General by the President of the World Ethnosport Confederation Bilal Erdoğan.
The Forum, which was co-organized by the WEC and Kazakhstan Ethnosport Association, gathered together Ministers of sports, government officials, ethnosport professionals, and academicians from all over the world. Participants discussed the ways to address the problems of the traditional sports as well as the methods to be adopted to preserve and promote such sports in todays world.
In his opening speech, President of the World Ethnosport Confederation Bilal Erdoğan highlighted the value of the traditional sports in creating a multicolored and more peaceful world while depicting the games as an instrument carrying the diversities of each culture to the future generations.
The Chairman of Kazakhstan Ethnosport Association, Kairat Satybaldy, underlined that the revival of the traditional sports will help ignite an awareness on our shared values and start a process of convergence among the Turkic Speaking countries.
As one of the keynote speakers of the opening session, Secretary General Amreyev underlined the role that Turkic Council has taken to uphold the cultural codes and common values of the Turkic Speaking peoples as well as the traditional sports with a specific reference to its role in the organization of the World Nomad Games.
Deputy Secretary General Ömer Kocaman and Project Directors Ali Çiviler and Zhanar Nugumanova accompanied the Secretary General at the event.
