The Governor of Istanbul, Mr. Ali Yerlikaya and President of the World Ethnosport Confederation (WEC) Mr. Bilal Erdoğan visited the Secretary General of the Turkic Council Baghdad Amreyev on 15 December 2020 and congratulated him and the staff for the new premises of the Turkic Council Secretariat.
Expressing his gratitude for the visit of Governor Yerlikaya and President of WEC Erdoğan, Secretary General Amreyev delivered his appreciation for continuous support and assistance provided to the Turkic Council by the host country Turkey and the President H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
B. Amreyev briefed on the activities of the Turkic Council and prospective plans in the upcoming period in line with the Turkic World Vision-2040 document prepared by the Secretariat which presents a long term roadmap for the future cooperation among the Member and Observer States.
Mr. Yerlikaya stated that it is pleasure to host the Turkic Council Secretariat at the historical peninsula of Istanbul and reiterated his readiness to support the Turkic Council in logistical and all other issues.
Governor Yerlikaya also mentioned that the Turkic Council plays a crucial role in increasing solidarity and brotherhood in the Turkic world and presents a valuable platform for empowering the cooperation and coordination among the Member and Observer States.
Praising the works done by the Turkic Council so far, President of WEC Erdoğan stated that the Turkic Council is the main organization in the Turkic World which contributes to the solidarity and deepen the relations among the Member and Observer States.
Mr. B. Erdoğan noted that WEC is in close cooperation with the Secretariat for the organization of the World Nomad Games to be held in İznik, Turkey in 2021 and expressed his belief that together with the contribution of the Turkic Council, World Nomad Games would increase its visibility in the international arena.
During the meeting, joint cooperation opportunities, major developments on regional and international agenda, preparations for the 8th Summit of the Turkic Council planned to be held in Istanbul next year as well as technical and administrative issues regarding the new premises of the Turkic Council were discussed.
After the meeting, Secretary General Amreyev gave briefing to the Turkish press representatives.
At the press conference, Secretary General underlined that while founding the Turkic Council; the Presidents of the Turkic States decided to place the Secretariat in Istanbul, which is the natural capital of the whole Turkic world and one of the most prominent centers in the globe.
He reminded that the first Summit of the Turkic Council was held in Istanbul in 2010 and pointed out that it is symbolic that after 10 years, the 8th Summit of the Turkic Council is again going to be held in Istanbul in 2021. He informed the press that during the upcoming Summit, the official opening of the new Secretariat building will take place with the presence of 7 Heads of State of the Turkic States participating in a special flag rising ceremony and extending a strong message of the unity of the Turkic world.
Secretary General also stated that during 2021 more than 10 significant events and Ministerial Meetings will be held with the participation of the Foreign Ministers and other government officials of the Member and Observer States in Istanbul. He expressed his belief that Istanbul will continue its historical role in uniting the Turkic world.
