The Turkic Council International Observation Mission composed of the representatives of the Turkic Council Secretariat and the Member States started monitoring the Parliamentary Elections of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Nur-Sultan.
Turkic Council delegation headed by the Deputy Secretary General Ömer Kocaman had a meeting with the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Shakhrat Nurishev on 6 January 2021 in Nur-Sultan.
S. Nurishev briefed the delegation on the reforms in the legal framework and electoral system as well as measures taken by the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan for ensuring larger involvement of Kazakh citizens living abroad in the voting process. Particularly, despite the COVID-19 pandemic 66 polling stations have been established in Embassies and Consulates of Kazakhstan in other countries including the Member and Observer States of the Council.
O. Kocaman expressed his belief that the important reforms and administrative preparations undertaken by the Government of Kazakhstan will contribute to ensuring transparent elections based on the internationally recognized standards and the national legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Deputy Secretary General of Turkic Council expressed the active role of Kazakhstan within the framework of the Turkic Council and noted that the organization will continue its contribution to the expansion of this comprehensive cooperation.
Parties discussed the current activities, ongoing projects and further actions of Organization in the upcoming period and efforts for the preparation of the upcoming Informal Summit of the Turkic Council to be held in Turkistan at the end of March, 2021.
