The 13th Meeting of Ministers in charge of Economy and Trade of the Organization of Turkic States was convened on 18 October 2024 in Bishkek.
The meeting was hosted and chaired by H.E. Daniiar Amangeldiev, the Minister of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic, and attended by H.E. Kubanychbek Omuraliev, the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States, H.E. Nurlan Baibazarov, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, H.E. Dr. Ömer Bolat, Minister of Trade of the Republic of Türkiye, H.E. Laziz Kudratov, Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, H.E. Rovnag Abdullayev, Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and H.E. Amb. Péter Sztáray, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary.
In his welcoming speech, Secretary General Kubanychbek Omuraliev outlined the role and activities of the OTS Secretariat in implementing the necessary measures and mechanisms for economic integration, expanding trade cooperation within the Turkic region and strengthening the competitiveness of the OTS economies, as well as developing a trustworthy digital environment that will boost e-commerce transactions of the OTS members among themselves and with the rest of the world. In this context, it was noted that the Digital Economy Partnership Agreement has been finalized and is ready to be signed among the OTS Member States at the upcoming Summit in Bishkek.
Ambassador Omuraliev emphasized the importance of trade facilitation measures, including the establishment of a Trade Facilitation Committee and the signing of a relevant document for free trade in services and investments in the OTS region.
The Secretary General informed about the planned activities of the OTS within COP29, the global climate summit scheduled to take place in Baku, Azerbaijan this year, and stressed that OTS aims to develop and implement strategies that not only protect our environment but also enhance our region's resilience to climate impacts.
In their statements, the Ministers and the Heads of Delegations from the Member States and the Observers emphasized the economic and trade potential of the Turkic region, underlined the importance of increasing the trade within the OTS region and called for urgent measures to facilitate trade relations through comprehensive cooperation.
At the end of the meeting, the ministers signed a “Communiqué of the 13th meeting of Ministers of Economy and Trade of the OTS”.
