I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations on the election of Ambassador Volkan Bozkır as the President of the 75th United Nations (UN) General Assembly with an overwhelming majority. It is indeed an historic event that, for the first time in the history of the UN, an official from the Turkic world will head the UN General Assembly (UNGA). I take this opportunity to praise all efforts that have contributed to this noble outcome.
Ambassador Bozkır, who has served as the former Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator and the Chairman of the Commission of Foreign Affairs of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, is taking the office of the President of the 75th Session of the UNGA at one of the most difficult moments in the life of the UN, and indeed, at a time of unprecedented complexity in world affairs and growing concerns about the global pandemic caused by Covid-19 and the ensuing economic recession. The expectations of the role he will play are not only high but also challenging. Assuring H.E. Bozkır of the full support of the Turkic Speaking States in these circumstances, I am also confident that his rich experience as a renowned international diplomat will help him overcome the difficulties he might face in this challenging but prestigious post and bring about further achievements.
As the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council), which adheres to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, we will keep striving to contribute to the UN values such as strengthening peace, security and stability in our region, with solid cooperation initiatives that generate prosperity.
I have full confidence that his high office will contribute to ensuring global peace and tranquility, as well as serve to the enhancement of the exemplary fraternal relations among the Turkic Speaking States.
