First Meeting of the Prosecutors General of the Turkic Council convened in Baku
First Meeting of the Prosecutors General of the Turkic Council convened in Baku on 1-2 November 2021. The meeting was inaugurated by the messages of H.E. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Turkey.
In the message, President Aliyev stated that establishment of the new format of cooperation between the prosecutor's offices within the Turkic Council will give impetus to the reliable protection of human rights and freedoms in the region, and unite efforts of the Member States in combating all forms of crime and create more effective cooperation.
In the video-message, President Erdoğan underlined that Turkey attaches great importance to the establishment of new ground among the judicial organs of the Turkic Council Members States at a time when threats such as terrorism, irregular migration and trans-national crimes are increasing and directly affecting the countries and their citizens.
The meeting was hosted by H.E. Kamran Aliyev, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan and attended by H.E. Kurmankul Zulushev, Prosecutor General of Kyrgyz Republic, H.E. Bekir Şahin, Prosecutor General of the Supreme Court of Appeal of the Republic of Turkey, H.E. Nigmatilla Yuldoshev, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Uzbekistan, H.E. Berik Assylov, First Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Mirvokhid Azimov, Deputy Secretary General of the Turkic Council, H.E. Viktor Szederkenyi, Ambassador of Hungary to the Republic of Azerbaijan and Dr. Cheol-Kyu Hwang, President of the International Association of Prosecutors.
During the meeting, Parties underlined the importance of increasing cooperation in the legal sphere and they emphasized that in order to eliminate trans-border threats such as terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and others, the coordination and direct communication among the Member States are of utmost importance.
At the meeting, Parties signed the “Regulation of the Council of Prosecutors General of the Turkic Speaking States” in order to establish close ties and provide assistance through cooperation in promoting effectiveness of the prosecutor's profession, using mutual knowledge, experience and technologies for this end.
Following the meeting, Parties hold bilateral meetings to discuss the prospective cooperation opportunities.
