The International Tourism Forum “Turkistan - Tourism Capital of the Turkic World for 2024” hosted by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the aegis of the Organization of Turkic States was organized on 12 October 2023 in Turkistan city, Kazakhstan.
With over 150 participants, the Forum brought together high-level officials from the Ministries in Charge of Tourism from the Member and Observer States of the OTS, representatives from the public and private sectors, businesses, academia and other stakeholders from the Turkic region.
Addressing the Forum with a welcoming speech, the OTS Deputy Secretary General Dr. Mirvokhid Azimov stressed that the Heads of State attach paramount importance to collaboration in the field of tourism, with the ultimate goal of expanding and promoting the tourism potential and enhancing the flow of tourists to the Member States.
Touching upon the ongoing tourism-related projects such as "Tabaruk Ziyarat", launch of a new website “turkicsilkroad.com” within the Silk Road Tourism, Deputy Secretary General shared with the participants the outcomes of the Ministerial and Working Group meetings on tourism, in particular proclamation of Turkistan as the “Turkic World Tourism Capital for 2024” and endorsement of a comprehensive Roadmap, which outlines the various events and activities scheduled for the coming year.
During the panel sessions, participants exchanged views on the challenges facing the tourism sector and discussed perspectives and strategies for promoting tourism destinations, attracting more tourists to the region, and increasing awareness of the historical and cultural treasures of the Turkic World.
