Turkic Council and UNDP join forces to support Global Goals

The Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) today agreed to work together closely to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The agreement will enhance the cooperation between the Turkic Council and UNDP to further sustainable development in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey as well as other countries within the region.
It will do so through the promotion of tourism, information and communication technologies and renewable energy to contribute to South-South and Triangular Cooperation in the Member States of the Turkic Council and across the region along the historic trade routes.
“By strengthening these countries’ economies and facilitating the exchange of information and knowledge among them, we will aim to boost their sustainable development prospects,” said Cihan Sultanoğlu, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, and Assistant Administrator and Director of UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
“As a dynamic international organization with a regional focus, the Turkic Council believes in the strength of partnership for the achievement of the SDGs in its member states and across its region along the traditional Silk Road,” said Ambassador Ramil Hasanov, the Secretary-General of the Turkic Council.
He added that “our collaboration with UNDP regarding the development of effective tools for the attainment of the SDGs while implementing our projects will pave the way for an even stronger partnership in the future.”
