The Networking Session dedicated on the theme of “Sports as a Means to Prevent Violent Extremism” has ended. The Session, which was held in partnership with the International Center for Sport Security (ICSS) and Save the Dream, was attended by the Chairman of Beşiktaş JK, Fikret Orman, as a guest of honour; Kashif Siddiqi, International Footballer & Co-Founder of Football for Peace, and Sergei Danilenko, Secretary General of the World Ethnosports Confederation. The Panel was moderated by Massimiliano Montanari, Executive Director of Save the Dream.
The Guest of honour, Mr. Orman, as well as the Panelists attending the session underlined the role of sport in formulating the mindset of youth. They stressed that in today’s world sport has become an important instrument of our lives. It has the power to change the lives of people, especially the youth if true mechanisms are to be generated. Sport has the potential to touch the lives of disadvantaged or less-privileged social segments. It has the power to successfully integrate the youth from all walks of life into society and to bring hope to communities. It possesses a huge transformative and constructive capacity, and can be utilized to heal some problems that we face today, including in combating against violent extremism and radicalization.
