Turkic Council’s Ministers of Health convened in Istanbul .
The Fourth Meeting of the Health Scientific Group of the Turkic Council with participation of the Ministers of Health was jointly organized by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey and the Turkic Council Secretariat in Istanbul, on 30 October 2020.
The meeting was held under the theme “COVID-19 Pandemic: Current Status and Future Perspectives” and attended by Dr. Fahrettin Koca, Minister of Health of the Republic of Turkey, H.E. Mr. Baghdad Amreyev, the Secretary General of the Turkic Council,  Dr.Alexey Tsoi, Minister of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Prof. Dr. Alymkadir Beyshenaliev, Minister of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, Dr. Alisher Shadmanov, Minister of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Dr. Elsevar Agayev, Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Dr. Zoltan Lorinczi, State Secretary of Health of Hungary and Dr. Hans Henri P. Kluge, Regional Director for Europe of the World Health Organization.
Participants in their speeches expressed their satisfaction with the implementation of the instructions of the  Heads of States given at the Extraordinary Video Summit of the Turkic Council on the COVID-19 pandemic held on 10 April 2020, as well as the decisions  of the 1st Meeting of the Ministers of Health of the Member and Observer States of the Turkic Council held on 28 April 2020.  They underlined that in a very short span of time, the Secretariat established mechanisms, such as “Health Coordination Committee”, “Health Scientific Group” to expand coordination and exchange of information in the fight against COVID-19 and other dangerous infections and the “Supply Chain Group” for providing each other with medical supplies to mitigate the negative effects of the COVID-19.
They underscored the importance of maintaining the achieved level of cooperation and carry it out further with new concrete projects, as well as preparing the Turkic Council’s Pandemic Action Plan.
The Health Scientific Group members continued to share their experience and exchange information during the following sessions that had the following themes: COVID-19 epidemiology and community outbreak management; Diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19; Management of critical COVID-19 patients; Outbreak management in hospitals and the health of healthcare workers; Management of community psychology and communication during an outbreak; The use of digital systems in managing an outbreak; Vaccine development efforts in Turkey and in the world.
The Parties have also agreed to strengthen the collaboration on the procurement of critical medical supplies, including personal protective equipment, medicines and medical devices, which are needed during the COVID-19 pandemic, and remove barriers against the movement of these supplies, as well as to provide medical assistance to each other in challenging times such as natural disasters, wars, poverty, outbreaks, in line with the spirit of brotherhood and as an important element of the solidarity in the region.
The participants adopted the Joint Declaration of the IV Meeting of the Health Scientific Group agreeing on scaling up the health care capacities of the Turkic Council Member and Observer States to test, trace, quarantine and treat COVID-19 cases, while implementing comprehensive public health measures to save lives.
President of the Republic of Turkey H.E. Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan engaged with the delegations during the closing ceremony of the meeting and Prof. Aziz Sancar Service, Science and Incentive Awards Ceremony was took place with the participation of President Erdoğan and the winners of the award.
The Ministers and the heads of delegations expressed their gratitude to the President of the Republic of Turkey and the Turkish people for their brotherly support and for the medical supplies delivered to their countries during the pandemic crisis.
On the margin of the event the Secretary General Baghdad Amreyev  hold bilateral meetings with the Minister of Health of the Republic of Turkey Dr. Fahrettin Koca,  the Minister of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan Dr.Alexey Tsoi, the Minister of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic Prof. Dr. Alymkadir Beyshenaliev, the Minister of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan Dr. Alisher Shadmanov, the Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan Dr. Elsevar Agayev, the State Secretary of Health of Hungary Dr. Zoltan Lorinczi, as well as  with the Regional Director for Europe of the World Health Organization Dr. Hans Henri P. Kluge.
During those bilateral meetings of the  Secretary General the outcomes of the Health Coordination Group meeting, future cooperation opportunities and needed action to use the full potential for further integration processes were discussed.
