Deputy Secretary General Dr. Ömer Kocaman attended and addressed the International Education Forum entitled "Globalization of Education in the 21st Century: Prospects for Development" organized by the International University of Kyrgyzstan on 11 October 2018 in Bishkek.

Deputy Secretary General Kocaman reported on the establishment of the Turkic Council`s working mechanisms setting out basic guidelines and principles of the organization. After mentioning about the continuing extensive partnership with the UN and other international organizations, he commented in greater detail about the major areas of cooperation of the Turkic Council giving particular preference to the sphere of science and education.

Deputy Secretary General elaborated on the subject of higher education and gave the latest information on the Turkic University Union. He recognized the active role of the International University of Kyrgyzstan in the work of the Union and its valuable contribution to the overall cooperation among the universities of the Turkic World.

Dr. Kocaman also referred to the 6th Summit of the Turkic Council, during which Kyrgyzstan assumed the chairmanship of the organization. He emphasized that the stated summit, which took place this year in Cholpon-Ata, generated strong political commitment at the highest level singling out, among others, the participation of Uzbekistan’s President and Hungary’s Prime Minister in the event.

The next day (12 October 2018) Deputy Secretary General attended the ceremony dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the International University of Kyrgyzstan. During the mentioned event, Deputy Secretary General received the title of "Honorary Doctor" of the university for his contribution to the notable projects carried out within the Turkic Council in the field of education and science such as the Orkhun Exchange Program, Sister School Project and University Sports Games.
