The Azerbaijanis were subjected to massacres by the Armenian gangs in Baku, Shamahi, Guba, Mushan and Lenkeran in March and April 1918, and unfortunately this bloody incident has taken its place as the largest mass genocide in the history of Azerbaijan.
31 March was declared as ‘Day of Genocide of the Azerbaijanis ` with the decision of the Great Leader of the Republic of Azerbaijan Haydar Aliyev, in order to avoid recurrence of similar incidents as well as to commemorate the martyrs who lost their lives.
On the occasion of this important day we commemorate all the martyrs who lost their lives at this tragic event with deep respect and mercy and I would like to reiterate that, we keep working with all our power to sustain peace, stability and security in order to prevent occurrence of similar disastrous events.
