The International Referendum Observation Mission of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), led by OTS Deputy Secretary General Mr. Sadi Jafarov, has commenced its activities in Astana in connection with the Republican Referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant, to be held on 6 October 2024.

The Mission includes representatives from the OTS Secretariat, parliamentarians, officials from Central Election Commissions, government representatives, and members of academia from the OTS Member States.

As part of its pre-referendum observation, the Mission held several meetings with high-ranking officials, including Chairperson of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan H.E. Nurlan Abdirov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Roman Vassilenko, and Vice-Minister of Energy H.E. Sungat Yessimkhanov.

During these meetings, the Mission was briefed on the preparations for the Referendum, information campaigns, and the measures taken to ensure the participation of Kazakh citizens living abroad.
