OTS Secretary General participated at the High-Level event on Advancing the Mountain Agenda within COP29

H.E. Amb. Kubanychbek Omuraliev, Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) participated in the High-Level Meeting on Advancing the Mountain Agenda, jointly organized by Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, and Mongolia on 13 November 2024 in Baku. 

During the panel session, H.E. Sadyr Japarov, President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Current Chairperson-in-Office of the OTS explored innovative ways to integrate mountain ecosystems into global climate solutions. He called for stronger international collaboration through the Mountain Partnership to serve as a "united voice" for mountain countries and communities.

President Japarov also urged support for a UN resolution, backed by 11 countries, to establish an International Day of the Snow Leopard, symbolizing long-term conservation efforts.

Speakers highly commended global initiatives of the Kyrgyz Republic put forward within the UN including the UNGA Resolutions on “Nature knows no borders: transboundary cooperation is a key factor in the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of biodiversity”, “Announcement of 2022 as the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development” and others.
