The 6th Meeting of Ministers and High Officials in Charge of Media and Information of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) convened in Tashkent on 19 December 2024.
The meeting hosted by the Agency for Information and Mass Communications under the Administration of the President of Uzbekistan was attended by High Officials in Charge of Media and Information of the OTS.
Deputy Secretary General Merey Mukazhan delivered a speech emphasizing the media’s role in shaping the future. He stated, “Media is a tool for shaping the future. By combining our efforts, we can ensure that the media space of the Turkic World becomes a source of truthful and constructive information, inspiring our nations to reach new horizons.”
The day before the meeting, senior representatives from the relevant government bodies of the OTS member states gathered to finalize key documents.
The 6th Meeting concluded with the adoption of the Tashkent Communique and the 2025 OTS Action Plan, which outline goals and strategies for strengthening cooperation among member states. A decision was also made to hold the 7th Meeting of Ministers and High Officials in Charge of Media and Information in Azerbaijan in 2025.
A Media Forum also took place alongside the official meetings, bringing together media representatives from OTS member states. The forum featured panel discussions on two major topics: "The Current State and Future Prospects of Cooperation Among OTS Member States in the Information Sector" and "Combating Disinformation and Fake News in the Era of Global Information." These sessions provided a platform for exchanging ideas and strategies to address the most pressing challenges in the media landscape.
