Turkic Council Secretary General Ambassador Ramil Hasanov delivered a speech at the Mid-Term Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement under the theme of ‘’Promoting international peace and security for sustainable development’’ on 6 April 2018 in Baku as the guest of the host country.
In his speech he emphasized the Turkic Council’s commitment to the founding Bandung Principles and the provisions enshrined in the Declaration on the Purposes and Principles and the Role of the Non-Aligned Movement in the Present International Juncture adopted in the 14th NAM Summit in Havana and underscored the important role that regional and sub-regional organizations can play in the promotion of regional peace and security as well as economic and social development through cooperation among countries in the region.
Secretary General Hasanov mentioned that as a young and dynamic international organization with its comprehensive and cooperative approach, the Turkic Council attributes utmost importance to strengthen its relations with the UN and its specialized organizations. Following this objective, the Turkic Council has been rising in the international arena as a respectful regional actor that possesses an important potential to contribute to the global partnership.
The existing cooperation between the Turkic Council and the UNDP is exemplary in the sense that how a regional inter-governmental mechanism and an international organization can successfully join their hands to empower the sustainable development in a specific region. By giving information on the projects that two institutions organized jointly or in partnership in the past three years he underlined the Turkic Council’s commitment to contribute to the implementation of the SDGs at each and every platform while designing its activities in a wide range of areas accordingly.
Secretary General Hasanov also reaffirmed the keenness of the Turkic Council to contribute to the efforts to implement the transformative ambition of the 2030 Agenda, in coordination and cooperation with all stakeholders and declared the desire to cooperate with Non-Aligned Movement trough participating in its activities.
During and following the Ministerial Meeting, the Secretary General had a series of bilateral meetings and talks with the representatives of other international organizations as well as Ministers attending the event.
Project Director Mr. Jeyhun Shahverdiyev and Acting Chief of Protocol Araz Salmanov accompanied Secretary General Hasanov at the Ministerial Meeting.
